Bitcoin Fortune Lost !

A computer engineer who lost £620m worth of the cryptocurrency Bitcoin wants to buy the rubbish tip where he believes it's buried !

- In 2009, a Mr. Howells bought the cryptocurrency when it was a fraction of today's value

- After spilling a drink on his computer storing the Bitcoins, the hard disk drive was removed and just put in a desk drawer....and forgotten about !

- In 2013, his (now) ex-girlfriend (!) accidentally threw out the hard drive containing 8,000 Bitcoins

- After Bitcoin soared in value, Mr. Howells hired a team to track down the hard drive on a local rubbish tip;  now believing it's somewhere in an area of 100,000 tonnes of landfill

- Despite offering to pay to find it - and even buy the Tip - Newport City Council has repeatedly refused his requests.  A Judge has since dismissed his attempt to sue the Council. He is seeking permission to search for it or £495m in compensation

- The Council plans to close the Tip in the 2025-26 Financial Year !
